Family Care Homes, Guardian Homes & Our Breeding Program

Family care home programs for brood bitches provide a nurturing and supportive environment for breeding dogs, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.

These programs aim to prioritize the health and happiness of the dogs while maintaining the highest standards in the breeding process. By placing brood bitches in loving family homes, breeders can create an optimal environment for successful breeding and the production of healthy and well-socialized puppies.

In a family care home program, brood bitches are placed with carefully selected families who have the knowledge and experience to provide the necessary care. These families are often referred to as “guardian homes” and play a vital role in the breeding program.

The brood bitch lives with the guardian family as a beloved pet, receiving individual attention and care that is essential for her well-being. This setup allows the dog to lead a normal life and develop a strong bond with her human family, ensuring she feels secure and loved.

The benefits of a family care home program are numerous. Firstly, it provides the brood bitch with a stable and enriching environment. Living in a home setting allows her to experience a wide range of everyday experiences, including regular socialization with people and exposure to various stimuli. This positively influences her temperament and ensures that she will pass on these positive traits to her offspring.

Furthermore, family care homes provide a healthier alternative to traditional kennel breeding setups. In a kennel environment, dogs may be exposed to stress, noise, and limited social interaction, which can negatively impact their overall well-being. Placing brood bitches in family homes minimizes the risk of stress-related health issues and allows them to live in a low-stress environment, which is conducive to successful breeding.

Another advantage of family care home programs is the ability to closely monitor the breeding dog’s health and reproductive cycles. The guardian family plays an active role in the dog’s care, including routine veterinary check-ups, health testing, and maintaining a well-balanced diet. This close relationship between the guardian family and the breeding program ensures that the brood bitch’s health is consistently monitored, minimizing the risk of genetic or hereditary health conditions being passed on to future generations.

Moreover, family care homes promote responsible breeding practices. By placing brood bitches with carefully selected families, reputable breeders ensure that their breeding stock receives the love and attention it deserves. This helps to prevent overbreeding and reduces the chances of dogs being used solely for profit. The focus shifts towards ethical breeding, prioritizing the health, temperament, and overall quality of the offspring.

Additionally, family care home programs allow breeders to maintain a limited number of breeding dogs while expanding their breeding program. This setup enables breeders to preserve genetic diversity within their lines by working with a larger pool of breeding stock without sacrificing the individual attention and care each dog needs.

In conclusion, family care home programs for brood bitches and dog breeding programs offer numerous benefits for both the breeding dogs and the breeding program as a whole. By placing brood bitches in loving family homes, breeders provide a nurturing environment that supports the dogs’ physical and emotional well-being.

These programs contribute to the production of healthy and well-socialized puppies, promote responsible breeding practices, and help maintain genetic diversity within breeding lines.

Family care home programs are a testament to the commitment of breeders in ensuring the best possible outcomes for their dogs and the future generations they produce.

This programme is excellent for families who have the love and time to devote to the care of one of our Rhodesian Ridgebacks, but perhaps cannot afford to buy a puppy in the usual manner. It is also a very good route to take if you and your family would like your Rhodesian Ridgeback to have puppies, but have no experience in animal husbandry, or don’t have the time to devote to raising a litter.

You will not need to pay the full price for a puppy, you will get the ‘pick of the litter’ as chosen by us, at a discounted price.  A contract will be drawn up between us with us remaining the legal owners, but the dog being every bit a member of your family.

We give direction and advice on feeding and health care to be followed & once the pup is mature, we will see that necessary health tests are conducted before they join our breeding program.

Girls are likely to have between 3 and 4 litters during their lifetime, so every so often whilst under our care and performing their duty, it’s a great chance for families to take a vacation and enjoy the freedom from full time dog care.  When breeding days are finished the girl is neutered and ownership is signed over to the family, meaning that none of our breeding dogs ever have to be re-homed.
